My mate has something to say… so you better read this.

Hey Hey,

Welcome to the bright spot — your look at content that connects.

I scroll so you don’t have to. I sift through the good, the bad, and the “please don’t post that” to bring you ideas you can actually use to connect with your community.

stop the scroll: the battery boost

Watch it here → Patrick Gorman boosts the battery rebate

This week’s standout is the way Patrick Gorman has combined several hooks at the start of his video to get your attention.

why it works:

  • Perfect music selection. This classic AC/DC track is back on the pop culture radar thanks to the dad rock band’s tour announcement and the new season of Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders on Netflix.

  • The quick change of fonts on the headline at the start of the video grabs attention immediately.

  • Patrick walks into frame, adding a second visual hook to hold attention.

  • The zoom-out to show the big battery keeps building visual interest in what is, at its heart, a very simple reel.

now trending: my friend is going to say something so you better listen up

This TikTok trend is starting to have a political moment, with politicians buddying up to share a message.

The premise is to have the first person introduce their mate who has something to say, by encouraging the audience to pay attention and listen up… or else.

See it in action →

Why it works:

  • The “you better be nice” energy is relatable and instantly engaging. Plus if you commit to the threatening vibe like Josh Burns, it adds visual interest and humour throughout the message.

  • This is a built-in collaboration moment and is a great way to put the spotlight on a colleague or a community group or expert you want people to hear.

  • A call to action that demands people listen to the message can’t get much more blatant than this.

Hot tip: If you’re going to try this one out, make sure you get the vibe right. Older audiences may not spot (or understand) this trend and my wonder why you’re being angry or weird.

your move: benchmark your numbers

This Week’s Challenge: Check in with your audience.

When was the last time you had a good look at your analytics?
(And I mean more than just a quick squiz at your follower numbers.)

We’re halfway through the year so it’s now a great time to check your insights and measure up:

  • What is the main demographics in your audience?

  • When are they active online?

  • How are new people discovering you?

  • What content is performing well, and why?

  • What are your targets for views and engagement on each post?

If you need help answering these questions you need my social media analytics worksheet. This is a comprehensive Google Spreadsheet that walks you through evaluating your baseline, setting benchmarks, monthly check-ins and auditing your content.
