beat the scammers

Have some fun with your phone filled with work-related photos.

This trending reel suits both businesses and politics, allowing you to highlight how a project has taken over your life and phone.

what you need:

  • Four to six photos or videos to feature. These could be of a single project, or even a whip around your electorate. They can be as boring or as funny as you like.

  • A brief clip of you looking at your phone or computer.

  • The audio.

  • Two phones, one to film, one to hold up.
If this isn’t an option, you can adapt the reel.

how to create the reel:

  1. First identify the photos or videos you want to share. You’ll need four to six for your reel, but ideally you will have more of the same subject to show in your camera roll.

  2. Pop the related photos or videos together in an album so you can safely hold that album up to the camera.

  3. Set up a shot showing you reading emails on your phone.
If you only have one phone, you could use a laptop or go skip the phone part and just film yourself reacting.

  4. Film reading the scammers demand, and then reacting as you know how boring your photos are. Pick up your phone and quickly move the screen to cover the camera lens for the transition. This entire clip should take about 5 seconds.

  5. Edit your reel together.

Cut your first clip to 5 seconds, ending when the camera is covered up. You can speed the video up slightly if you moved too slowly.

Add the text over the first clip, ending it before the transition.

    Text:
scammer: pay me $100k or I’ll expose your camera roll.

Then add your photos or videos. Keep each clip to 1.5 seconds or less.

The whole reel should be 14 seconds or less.

If you stick to this timing, you can add the audio in the Instagram app before posting.

  6. Don’t forget to select a good cover image and add a caption.
